It's OPENING DAY at Gulfstream and the program features the annual "Claiming Crown" stakes races. The $850,000 program which requires runners to have been entered for various claiming tags throughout the year makes it's initial appearance in Hallandale today! Before the racing season even started there was exciting news in the local paper yesterday........
Ever since Gulfstream was remodeled, and don't get me wrong, I love the new facility, but the seating capacity is around 600 or less and that meant never hosting the Breeders' Cup again. I'd been to all three hosted here in the past and I truly wished there was some way to return the running of the Cup Championships here. Lo and behold such a plan is in place! The fact that Frank Stronach owns Gulfstream is a real plus - why? Because he owns Santa Anita and they have hosted the Breeders' Cup four of the last six years! The Breeders' Cup site selection committee chair even remarked that they "like working with the Stronach group!" Let's hope this is only a few years away. As for today's races you can see all my selections here:

But here are my choices in the Claiming Crown Stakes events......
4th: The Express: #6 My Place Anytime
5th: The Iron Horse: #7 Red Hills
6th: The Rapid Transit: #8 Tiz Liberty (or #13 Bernie the Maestro)
7th: The Glass Slipper: #13 Tamarind Hall *
8th: The Tiara: #14 Silver Screamer *
9th: The Emerald: #3 Major Marvel

Good Luck!
